As a national gem, the region of Snowdonia is one that’s steeped in history and is a place that West Point resort is proud to be so close to. If you’re a first time visitor to the region, here’s a handy guide filled with information so you can make the most of your visit. Overview There’s plenty of discussion about whether Eryi means “eagle” or “highlands” but most believe it to be the latter. An area of natural preservation, Snowdonia offers plenty in the way of flora and fauna. The Mountains Measuring in only a few feet below the big daddy comes Garnedd Ugain and the “brothers” of the Carneddau, Dafydd and Llewellyn. A whole book can be written on the origins and naming of these illustrious and spectacular mountains. Wildlife Otters and polecats roam the region but the endangered pine marten hasn’t been recorded in years. It could be quite the sight if you’re traversing the grand hills to come across this member of the mustelid family! Birds such as the merlin and raven can be found in the skies of the area thanks to its reclusive aspects, far from modern life and is a keen spot for any bird-watchers throughout the year. Although fairly straightforward, this guide should be able to help you through the region and to have the most fun out of your journey. - "Temperature Inversion Snowdonia" by www.flickr.com/photos/leshaines123/ License: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/deed.en_GB |
